Over the next few days leading up to this year’s draft, Acme Packing Company will examine the Packers’ history at each current slot for 2019, as well as run down the names of recent picks around the league at the position. The Packers’ final selection in the 2019 NFL Draft — at least heading into draft weekend — comes in the seventh round, at number 226 overall. There have been precious few players to make any sort of impact in the NFL when drafted in that spot, and the most notable 226th pick in any draft was actually picked there by an AFL team. That player, offensive tackle Ernie McMillan, was chosen 226th by the AFL’s Boston Patriots, but he also heard the St. Louis Cardinals call his name in the NFL Draft at 176 overall. McMillan signed with St. Louis, where he went on to a long Green Bay Packers Hoodie , productive career that included four Pro Bowl appearances. Interestingly, after 14 years with the Cardinals, McMillan finished his career with one season as the Packers’ starting left tackle in 1975.Although the Packers and other teams have had some success with seventh-rounders in years past, don’t expect much if the Packers do make a pick at 226 this year.Packers’ History at #2261946: Maurice Stacy, B1980: Kelly Saalfeld, CStacy never played in the NFL, while Saalfeld suited up for seven games with the New York Giants in 1980.Recent History at #2262018: David Williams, RB, Arkansas (Broncos)2017: David Moore, WR, East Central (Seahawks)2016: Jonathan Woodard Elgton Jenkins Jersey , DE, Central Arkansas (Jaguars)2015: Bobby Hart, G, Florida State (Giants)2014: Mitchell Van Dyk, OL, Portland State (Rams)2013: Michael Buchanan, DE, Illinois (Patriots)2012: David Molk, C, Michigan (Chargers)2011: Greg Romeus, DL http://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Darnell-Savage-Jr.-Jersey , Pittsburgh (Saints) The Packers may have suffered through an unmemorable season, but they did get things kicked off with one of the best games of 2018, and on Saturday night, Aaron Rodgers was recognized for the teams’ stunning 24-23 comeback against the historically great Bears defense with the “Moment of the Year” award. It was a thrilling and supremely unlikely victory given how the season progressed for both the Bears and Packers. The Bears would jump out to a 17-0 halftime lead after knocking Aaron Rodgers from the game with what looked to be a fairly serious knee injury. Rodgers would return, down 20-0, to a huge ovation in the second half, and partially because he had no mobility, morphed into a Tom Brady-esque quick strike passer to finish out the game. Getting the ball out early served to neutralize the fierce Bear pass rush, and Chicago had no answer as Rodgers carved up the NFL’s number one defense as if it were Dom Capers-led. Rodgers capped off the game with a 75-yard touchdown to Randall Cobb, who weaved in and out of a sea of defenders before finally taking it to the house. Both Cobb and the Packers peaked early in 2018, as this game accounted for roughly a third of Cobb’s season production. After this he would catch only 29 balls for just 241 yards (8.3 per reception) Rashan Gary Jersey , for 1 TD, while only hauling in 56% of targets. Presenting the award was none other than Brett Lorenzo Favre, who Rodgers thanked as an early mentor, and an inspiration. Rodgers also thanked “Cobby,” who is unlikely to return to the team next season after a sensational Packer career. It was a nice moment, and a well-deserved honor for a sensational performance, but it was also a bittersweet reminder of what might have been. That said, it was also an indicator of just how good the team could have been with slightly better health, and slightly better coaching. In 2019, perhaps they will have both.
